March 13 – 17

Popcorn words:  were, where, there.

Math: This week we continued to practice our addition sentence writing.  Noticing that they can be written two different ways.  One way is to write the partners first then the answer ( 2 + 3 = 5).  Another way is to write the answer first then the partners (5 = 2 + 3).  The Kindergarteners are doing a great job of working on their subtraction skills as well.

Reader’s Workshop: This week we continued to explore Nonfiction Reading. This week we dove into learning about Bears and all of the Kindergarteners added a Non-fiction book to their book boxes, All About Bears. We added the fairytale Goldilocks and the Three Bears.  We enjoyed trying our own “porridge” on Friday.  Some of us decided we like porridge (oatmeal) and some of us did not.  The Kindergarteners loved making this connection to our fairytale.

Writer’s Workshop We continuing our informational writing piece on the topic of Bears. The Kindergarteners did a great job of gathering information from books and also exploring some bear facts from videos.   We will put what we learned into our own All About Bears book this week.

Library:  We did not have a library day last week.  Due to our Book Fair we will be having it this week.  Many of the Kindergarteners already returned their book to our classroom library basket.

St. Patrick’s Day:  All week we had some tricky shenanigans in our classroom left by a mystery little leprechaun (Mrs. Stutz).  Our leprechaun left us shamrocks to hang, gold to find and yummy cupcakes on Friday to enjoy!!  We loved the little footprints he left us on our desks and walls!!
