11/19 – 11/20

Popcorn Words:  This week we practiced the words we have learned so far.  A review week – two days.  We will resume our weekly words when we return from our Thanksgiving break.  Originally, our November calendar stated popcorn words an, can and man as our words of the week.  We will move those words to the next week.  Thanks for your understanding.

Math:  This week we explored shapes, positional words and number sentences that equaled 10.  We continue to work on Unit 2 when we return from break.

Writers Workshop:  This week we worked on stretching and sounding out words.  We incorporated our writing with our discussion on the story of Thanksgiving.  The kindergartners loved pretending they needed to pack a suitcase for a big trip.  We decided on wants and needs we would take with us and then stretched each item to put it on our packing list.  We then put it inside our “suitcase” and pretended to board a big ship like the Mayflower.  The kinders loved this writing fun!

Readers Workshop:  We worked on practicing our reading strategies this week.  The kinders practiced using their pointer finger to match words they read and wrote this week.  We worked on practicing sounds in words and even discovering chunks inside words.  The kinders are really beginning to discover so much about words they are seeing.

Pizza Party:  On Monday we had a GREAT Pizza Party!  The kinders loved having our Jets Pizza Party in our classroom.  Enjoying pizza, bananas, carrots, and juice boxes.  Thanks so much to all of you for ordering Jets Pizza and helping us earn a class Pizza Party!

Thankful Centers:  Thank you to our Volunteers for helping us during our centers on Tuesday.  It was fun to see the kinders explore 4 different Thanksgiving themed centers.  Hearing them say who they wanted to give their Thankful box too was so heartwarming.  Watching them investigate and explore a pumpkin and then try pumpkin pie was fun too.  They LOVED creating their own hideout for a Turkey, using marshmallows, candy corn, cranberries, etc.  The kinders also got to make their own Thanksgiving story bracelet.

Mystery Readers:

  • Wesley was SO EXCITED to see his Grandma walk through the door as our Mystery Reader!  She knows the workings of a school very well!  Wesley’s Grandma used to be a school secretary!  She read us two great books.  My Toothbrush is Missing and  Is That Wise Pig by Jan Thomas.  Both hilarious books that I highly recommend!!  Thank you so much for visiting with us, Grandma Koopmans!!

  • Avery was absolutely THRILLED to see her Mom peek through our door as a Mystery Reader!  Mrs. Pierce read us the adorable story of Thelma the Unicorn by Aaron Blabey.  A GREAT story about being yourself!  Thank you for visiting with us, Mrs. Pierce!!
