Popcorn Words: what, it.
Math: This week the kinders did a GREAT job of exploring our Math Workshop activities. With Unit 3 we are working in small Math groups, working independently and working with Math partners that support our Math goal for the day. This week the kinders explored finding partners in number sentences, completed addition and subtraction sentences and practiced teen number building. They did a GREAT job!
Writers Workshop: This week we wrote another pattern book of our own. The kinders listened to several pattern books to prepare for this writing. They have become so GOOD at discovering what kind of pattern the book is. We looked at patterns that had a surprise ending this week. A surprise ending is when the last page is not like the other pages, it changes completely. The kinders wrote a book of their own, I Have Two. They are doing a GREAT job with pattern writing!
Readers Workshop: This week we explored more superpowers that Super Readers use when reading. The kinders learned about snap word power and partner power. Snap word power is when a reader can find words they know, like sight words, and read those words in a snap. The kindergartners explored the classroom for words they knew in a snap. Partner power is when readers help each other when they are reading. The kindergartners worked with their reading partner to read a book together, taking turns to point and read to each other. Helping each other with words that might be tricky.
Handwriting: This week we worked on the uppercase letters P, B, R, D and J. The Kindergartners practiced these letters using play-dough, whiteboards and markers and in their journals.
Mystery Readers:
- On Monday, Charlotte jumped up with joy to see her Dad come through our door as our Mystery Reader. Mr. Becker read us one of his childhood favorite books, Strega Nona by Tomie dePaola. The kinders loved this Caldecott Honor-winning story about a magical pasta pot. Thank you for visiting with us Mr. Becker.
- On Friday, Piper was absolutely awestruck to see her Grandparents and baby sister come through our door as our Mystery Reader. Piper’s Grandma read us a fantastic story about Santa Claus’s big sister, Auntie Claus by Elise Primavera. A fantastic story about the importance of giving. Thank you for visiting with us Piper’s Grandparents and adorable Santa baby sister Bernadette!!

Superstar Behavior Stars: Our class earned 15 superstars for AWESOME classroom behavior! We have decided to have a combo day on Monday. Our combo day is Sports and Stuffed Animal Day. What does that mean? Wear your favorite sports team or sports gear and bring a stuffed animal. What if I don’t want to do either or only one? Like Pete the Cat says, “It’s all good.” This day is meant to celebrate their amazing choices in behavior. I am soooo proud of them!!
Holiday Party: Thank you to the volunteers who have contacted me about the upcoming party! All of our supplies have been taken care of. We also have all of our volunteers needed for the party! AWESOME! As I wrote before I am limited to the number of volunteers for this party, to 10. Thank you for understanding that we are all set for those who are able to attend on Thursday.
