5/6 – 5/10

Thank you for the kind words, treasures and goodies that you gave this past week of Teacher Appreciation Week!!  It was so thoughtful and kind of you!  I am SOOOO lucky to LOVE what I do!!  I LOVE being part of your child’s educational experience!!  Thank you for sharing them with me!!!

Popcorn Words:  by, my, one.  These words were practiced all week.  The kinders discovered that y says” i” in these words and that o says “w”.  The May flashcards were also sent home this week.  We will be reviewing sight words for the last few weeks of school.  So these are the last of the sight word flashcards you will receive.  If you would like a full list of sight words for the year please email me and I will send home a full list of words.

Math:  This week in Math we worked on finding the missing partner in Math mountains, telling stories with pictures, played a hide the 0 game in teen number sentences, writing number sentences that match pictures and working on completing addition and subtraction number sentences.  This group of Kinders LOVES Math!!!  We will continue to build our knowledge of these Math concepts for the next couple of weeks.

Writers Workshop:  This week we dove into Opinion Writing.  The Kinders learned that an opinion is their own belief about something.  There is no right or wrong.  We can support our opinions by developing reasons why we like something and then wrapping it up with a closing sentence.  The Kinders started this week of Opinion writing with trying chips and salsa.  Then they wrote about what animals ears they thought were best.  Also, exploring what pet would be their favorite pet.  They are loving this Opinion writing genre!

Readers Workshop:  This week the Kinders worked hard on exploring Non-fiction and Fiction Genres.  They worked on using all of their reading superpowers to practice their stamina every day!  Never giving up on their books and REALLY enjoyed Friday’s Crazy Hair Day…..because WE ARE CRAZY ABOUT READING!!  We will continue to build our reading skills for the remainder of the school year.  Working hard on reaching reading level goals and specific skills to get us further developed as readers.  Our goal by the end of the school year is to be able to read a D level independently.
