11/18 – 11/22

A HUGE thank you for attending our Fall Parent/Teacher Conferences this week!  It was so GREAT to get to share your Kinders progress with you.  We love our time with these amazing children of yours!  Your support and teamwork with us are priceless!  We are so lucky to be part of your child’s learning journey!!  Please feel free to email us if you ever have any questions, jstutz1@hpseagles or ablauwka@hpseagles.net.

Celebrating Superstar Behavior:  We had a lot of fun having our Pizza and Movie Party!  We loved watching The Curious George movie and having lunch together.  We are so proud of how they worked together to do their best behavior to earn points as a K team.  All of them supporting each other to make good choices and do their best.  We can’t wait for our next Superstar behavior celebration!

Popcorn Words:  an, can, man.  The Kinders did a GREAT job writing these words in sentences in their journals during our literacy time.  They also were amazing word detectives and found the word “an” hiding in can and man.  We loved hearing the classic tale of The Gingerbread Man this week!

Literacy Centers: We are working hard on getting used to literacy center time.  The Kinders get a chance to rotate to several literacy centers a few times a week.  They get to focus on skills like sentence writing, segmenting and other pre-reading skills.  This time also allows Mrs. Blauwkamp and me to work with small groups on specific skills to grow their reading skills.  We will be expanding our volunteer opportunities for these literacy center times.  Check our volunteer tab for literacy centers to sign up.

Writers Workshop:  This week the Kinders worked hard on writing true stories about themselves.  First, thinking of a story, telling it to a friend and then drawing and writing their story across 3 pages.  We are so proud of how well they are doing!!  The Kindergartners are focusing on writing stories that are easy for others to read.  Making sure they draw lots of details in pictures and add all the sounds in the words to match their pictures.

Readers Workshop:  The Kindergartners worked on adding more Super Powers to their reading strategies this week.  We practiced sound power and persistence power.  Sound power reminds us that pictures aren’t always enough to help us figure out a word.  We need to use the sound of the first letter to read the word.  Persistence Power reminds us to never give up when trying to tackle unknown words.  The Kinders also enjoyed working with their partners to share their favorite parts in books they read.  Practicing their partner power!  We are becoming SUPER READERS!!!

Math:  We have wrapped up our Unit 2 in Math this week.  Working hard on crossing out objects to show subtraction, finding groups of objects to show a number, drawing pictures to show addition story problems and discovering features of shapes.  This next week we will be taking our Unit 2 Math test.

Mystery Reader:  Ella was THRILLED to see her Mom walk through our door as our Mystery Reader.  Mrs. Hopkins read us the story, Who Wants Arthur?  An amazing story that reminds us all to just be ourselves.  Thank you for visiting with us Mrs. Hopkins!  We have opened more Mystery Reader spots, check our volunteer tab and click on Mystery Reader to sign up.  If you are interested and don’t see an open spot on our sign up page PLEASE reach out, we are flexible with getting you in to read to us!
