11/25 – 11/26

The Kinders LOVED making a Thankful Bag with their 5th grade buddies! They decorated the bag filled it with supplies and added a note that details how each ingredient symbolizes their thankfulness for you!

We also want to express our thankfulness to all of our Kindergarten families!  To be able to do what we love and spend every day with your sweet Kinder is such a JOY!!!  Thank you for sharing your Kindergartner with us.  Sending you all a WONDERFUL Thanksgiving break!

Math:  We wrapped up our Unit 2 this week.  The Kinders took their Math test on Tuesday.  These tests will come home next week.  We will begin our Unit 3 when we return from Thanksgiving break.  Unit 3 will explore teens numbers as tens and ones.

Writing:  The Kinders made an adorable Turkey adding feathers that have what they are thankful for written on them.  It was so adorable to see what they added (family, brothers, sisters, school, friends, pets, grandparents).  Enjoy these adorable turkeys!!

Visiting Ms. Yankee’s class:  We were THRILLED to visit our 2nd grade friends and some siblings in Ms. Yankee’s class for their Non-fiction Museum.  The 2nd graders were experts on different topics and shared their expertise with us!  We got to hear about all kinds of different animals during our visit.  Each 2nd grader shared their knowledge with us as we traveled around their “museum.”  Thank you Ms. Yankee’s 2nd graders!!!

Wants and Needs: We are continuing to explore the difference between a want and a need.  The Kinders helped with a sort and also did their own sort they brought home.  Everything feels like a need!  We will continue to reinforce this concept when we return from break.  Highlighting the idea that Needs are things we have to have in order to survive (food, water, shelter, love, clothing) and Wants are things we would like to have but don’t have to have in order to survive (toys, candy, pets, ice cream, video games).

Mystery Reader:  Hailey was SOOOO HAPPY to see her Mom walk through our door as our Mystery Reader!  Mrs. Nauta read us the hilarious book, I Say OOH, You Say AAH by John Kane.  The Kinders LOVED this book!  Thank you for visiting with us Mrs. Nauta and for the book donation to our classroom!!  More Mystery Reader spots have been added to our Volunteer sign up page if you are interested.  Please feel free to email us if you don’t see a time that works for you and we are happy to accommodate.

Soup from a stone?:  Imagine that!  The Kinders LOVED adding all of their ingredients to our pot to make our very own stone soup.  It was so fun to see them excitedly add their ingredients and then check on the soup all day while it cooked.  As we looked at our Let’s Find Out magazine we noticed how long ago children helped with food too, just like we were doing!  We got to try the soup if we wanted.  Some deciding YES they liked the soup and some decided NO thanks I don’t like the soup.  Thank you all so much for sending in the ingredients for our fun day!

Changing Faces of Help:  We have some new faces that are helping our Kinders in our class.  Mrs. Bynum is in a different role in our school and we now have Mrs. Sliwa as our recess and lunchroom teacher.

We also have new support with our class while they are coming back from lunch and in their specials time.  Mrs. Smies is now joining us during this time.

Mrs. Blauwkamp and I are still the same!  We are both with your Kinders all day when they are in our classroom.  We are continuing to find our rhythm together as Co-teachers and are so THANKFUL for each other!  We are continuing to teach lessons whole group and beginning to break off into smaller groups for different topics.  Please feel free to email us with any questions.
