1/13 – 1/17

Popcorn Words:  said, make

Math: This week in Math the Kinders worked hard on sorting objects and pictures by attributes (big, small, 2 legs, 4 legs, wings, no wings, etc.).  They also worked on making 5 group drawings to show different numbers up to 9.  Drawing on their whiteboards groups of 5 and then some more to show a number.  They worked really hard on these Math concepts this week.

Writers Workshop:  We continued to dive into our How-To writing this week.  The Kinders had fun reading, making and writing several How-To’s.  We read about and made a liquid rainbow.  Following our How-To book step by step.  The Kindergartners did a GREAT job making predictions of what might happen if we didn’t follow the steps in the right order.  We also had a lot of fun making and trying pink lemonade.  The Kindergartners worked together on what steps come next in this How-To.  It was a lot of fun to watch them work together as a class to write, draw and then eat their own little cutie oranges.  The kinders ABSOLUTELY LOVED watching their friend Ella’s How-To Make Yogurt Parfait video.  If your Kinder has a How-To video you would like to send in for our class to view send it our way.  If your having any issues with figuring out how to send it….feel free to reach out and we can help you problem-solve.

Readers Workshop:  This week the Kinders worked hard on noticing patterns in books.  They practiced reading these patterns they found and sharing them with their reading partners.  We also worked hard on checking our reading and that it matched the pattern.  Working hard on making sure that the letters we see matched the sounds we know and putting it all together with words we see in books.  The Kinders also practiced making a pile of books they will read using their reading mats.  We are so amazed at how the Kinders are progressing as readers!!

P.J. and Comfy Day Fun:  The Kinders were so excited to celebrate their 5 stars for positive behavior.  They had lots of fun in their jammies.  The loved relaxing and watching a movie, Arthur’s Missing Pal in the afternoon.

Mystery Readers:

  • Norah was SOOOO EXCITED to see her Mom walk through the door as a Mystery Reader this week.  Mrs. VanSlyke read us the book, It’s a Seashell Day and then gave us each our own seashell!! Mrs. VanSlyke had a funny story of why she brought her seashell book….she got stuck in Florida with the weather we had last week!  Norah was so happy her Mom got home!  Thank you for visiting with us Mrs. VanSlyke!!

  • Kendall was THRILLED to see her Mom and little sister Kenzie as our Mystery Readers this week.  Mrs. Laurie read us the book, Gilbert Goldfish Wants a Pet.  An adorable story about a goldfish who had everything.  He was just missing one thing…a Pet!  Mrs. Laurie gave us each a fun goldfish stamp after our story.  Thanks for visiting with us Mrs. Laurie and Kenzie!!

Valentine’s Fun:  A letter came home this week about our upcoming Valentine’s Party.  It will be on Friday, February 14, from 2:00-3:00 p.m.  As part of our Valentine’s celebration we will be making Valentine’s mailboxes at school.  If your Kinder would like to bring in Valentines for their classmates we sent home labels with names on it for easier Valentine addressing.  These Valentines can be sent in by Feb. 7, allowing us time for the Kinders to deliver their Valentines in class.  If you would like to coordinate our Valentine’s Party Day party please feel free to reach out to us (jstutz1@hpseagles.net or ablauwka@hpseagles.net).
